§ ¶VirtualDub 1.8.5 released
1.8.5 is out -- just a little quick bug fix release. The changelog says the 15th because I actually built it on Friday, but hadn't gotten a chance to publish it until today. There are just two fixes in this version, one for a crash issue that some people were seeing in capture mode, and another for a filter compatibility issue that affected my subtitler.
Build 29963 (1.8.5, stable): [August 15, 2008]
[bugs fixed]
* Capture: Fixed a possible crash when loading device settings.
[regressions fixed]
* Video filters which used GDI rendering in in-place mode but only requested
a DC for one buffer now work.

Oh well.

How about to add a way to insert a JPG in a video
and present it for several seconds with voice narration.
That would be cool for the VirtualDub 1.8.6 update.

What about inserting the exact small thing i personally need ? That would be cool for the next update.
Anyway, you can already do what you just talked about. Add the picture a few times in a new vid, then play with the frame rate settings a few times to get it to the good duration and fps for your movie. Add your audio. Then export it in the same format as your other vid and concat the whole thing.

Great idea! Nothing like adding the picture, duration to show the picture and voice narration in two... clicks. The other method is too complicated and inaccurate… too many steps and a pain. For now I use free M$ PhotoStory to do this. But I would like to dump PhotoStory and use VirtualDub for this task too. If Avery adds this feature I will use VirtualDub for photo narration also. VirtualDub is my favorite video tool. Thanks and good job Avery.

there is cosmetic bug in joblist. while deleting finished jobs, only half of finished jobs will be removed because: list is checked from top to bottom, so if entry 1 is deleted entry 2 is entry 3 ... so entry 2 cannot be removed ... list must be checked from bottom to top to make it work.

What do you mean, cosmetic bug? That's just a bug, period. I've checked in a fix that'll go out in 1.8.6.
As a side note, it's a good old fashioned borked-delete-during-iteration error. I got it right far enough to actually do the erase-or-increment, but I forgot to take the increment out of the for loop itself. It's perfectly OK to do this via forward iteration as long as you manage the index or iterator correctly on an erase.

I think I found a bug in latest v1.8.x (1.8.1 did not have the bug) : when you select to change the frame rate (source rate adjustment) to a value higher than the original fps, the file won't be processed. The same happens when you select to match audio and video durations only in case the proposed fps is higher than the original fps.
In cas the requested fps is lower than original one, then all will work fine.
Of course, I tried that with uncompressed output, so that it can't be a codec problem.
Thanks for all the work !

...Any chances of VD reading EXIF from JPGs ?...
And, oh, built-in filter for sane White Balance !
=)
Thank you for your great job!

...And (one more "oh") the "Monitor Volume" control slider, behaving/looking/located similarily to the volume slider of MPC (to the right side, in row with "transport control" buttons) would be just A.m.a.z.i.n.g. ...
